Enagás is the largest natural gas transmission company in Spain. It owns gas transmission infrastructures, in the broad sense of the Spanish hydrocarbons law, which includes high pressure transmission, regasification and underground storage facilities.

It owns regasification facilities in Barcelona, Huelva, Cartagena and El Musel, over 10,076 km of high pressure gas pipelines, up to 80 bar, the international connections of Badajoz and Tuy (Portugal), Larrau and Irún (France), Tarifa (Maghreb gas pipeline) and Almería (Medgaz pipeline) and the underground storage facilities of Gaviota, Serrablo and Yela.

Enagás, by virtue of Royal Decree-Law 6/2009, of 30 April, is the sole transmission system operator for the primary gas transmission trunk network, and is authorised to build, operate, and maintain LNG regasification facilities, and to transport and to provide basic natural gas storage.

Enagás is in charge of the development and expansion of the trunk network in the gas sector, guaranteeing the maintenance and improvement of the network under homogeneous and coherent criteria.

In 2012 Enagás obtained the ISO (acronym for Independent System Operator) certification, recognized at European level, through which it can manage the transmission trunk network of a carrier that non accredited as a TSO (Transmission System Operator).
